June is haying month. At least we got started in June...rain delayed it so much, haying extended well into July. Here, Julia, one of our apprentices is standing on the stubble of a field already harvested and the field beside her is ready to cut. It has a mixture of orchard grass, brome grass, timothy, alfalfa, red clover and a little white clover and trefoil. We try to cut the hay when the alfalfa is just starting to bloom, but this year that meant the grass has gotten pretty mature.
