The sheep are our mowing machines in the orchard. They will damage the tree trunks if left for a long time in one area so they have to be moved to a new area daily, or at this time when they are still nursing lambs, they only spend part of the day in the orchard and return to the barn where their lambs are. (We lambed in March) We cannot put the lambs in the orchard as the grass there is contaminated with intestinal parasite larva to which the lambs are very susceptible. The white string is the top wire (a highly visible tape) of a 3 strand portable electric fence used to fence the flock in one area at a time. Kelp meal, mineral and natural salt are available to all grazing animals as well.
