End of July. The row cover is elevated by the growing plants of cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower beneath. We remove it temporarily to weed and harvest beneath it and replace it carefully to keep the white cabbage looper butterflies and flea beetles out from under. The row cover serves as a barrier to most insect pests but can harbor fungus and make wet conditions worse if it's a wet year.
