My interest in organic foods started during my university career. I
took a Food and Society course which revealed the inner workings of
conventional food production and the effects of these food systems.
Upon finishing my degree in Sociology at St. Francis Xavier University
I moved back to Truro and began working at a family owned health food
store, Sunspun Natural Foods. This gave me a better understanding of
the benefits of local, organic and alternative foods.
These experiences taught me that there are strong implications with
the consumption of food on a multitude of levels including well being,
social and environmental issues.
This background has solidified my desire to work in an area that lends
itself to a healthy and conscious lifestyle for our bodies and for the
physical and social environment. Supporting OACC as an administrative
assistant has allowed that to happen. My duties range from general administrative
work to lending a helping hand to research in the field. In my spare
time I enjoy hiking, exploring new areas in the province and staying
active!
