Still Matched

Ed Belzer, 2007

Facing the summer’s arduous hay-season work,
I noticed my longest, my favourite, hay-pitching fork
Had over the years worn quite short of tine.
Alas, a new one nowhere could I find.
That long-handled fork a brag load could lift no longer.
But neither could I, since I was younger, stronger.
And with the old fork I got along fine,
Because, not despite, it was worn in the tine.
