About the Organic Agriculture Centre of Canada (OACC)

Director’s Message
Greetings and welcome to the home page of the Organic Agriculture Centre of Canada (OACC)! The OACC was formed in 2001 with a vision to serve Canada’s organic sector through science and education. Organic strives to ensure the viability of farmers while serving the interests of consumers and emphasizing environmental sustainability and animal welfare.
The OACC is here to support organic farmers and other stakeholders by conducting and facilitating credible and practical research across Canada. We accomplish this by establishing linkages with producers, scientists, government extension agents and industry stakeholders right across the country. Since 2001, the OACC has worked with over 100 farmers across Canada, and is currently facilitating research with over 50 scientists in at least 10 universities and 10 Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada research stations. With the support of our industry partners, we coordinate national, strategic research initiatives such as the Organic Science Cluster.
The OACC has representation at the Organic Value Chain Roundtable and the Canadian General Standards Board to stay connected with this evolving sector and to mobilize research and education that most effectively serves the needs of the organic community.The OACC focusses on providing resources through its website by maintaining current content and links to organic science, extension and education relevant to Canadians. Our free monthly e-zine helps over 15,000 readers across the country stay current with latest research and extension available.
While serving the needs of the organic community across Canada, the OACC is proud to be located at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, which has generously supported OACC’s national mandate since 2001. The OACC is guided by a national Advisory Board with representation from across the organic community in Canada.
